A specialist division of the Sri Lanka Police, the Tourism Police Service was established to protect the safety and security of foreign visitors. The service was founded in 2005 with the goal of giving tourists a safe and enjoyable trip by resolving issues pertaining to tourism, such as safety concerns, legal challenges, and crimes committed by tourists.  

• Tourist Assistance

Tourists can get assistance from the Tourism Police in the event of an emergency, theft, missing items, or conflict. Additionally, they offer details about nearby attractions, transit, and other services.

• Protection and Safety

Ensuring visitor safety is the main objective of the Tourism Police, especially in well-known tourist locations like Galle, Kandy, Colombo, and the coastline regions.

• Crime Prevention

They strive to maintain peace and order in tourist-heavy regions and stop crimes including harassment, theft, and frauds that target tourists. 

• 24/7 Availability

The Tourism Police are available around the clock and have dedicated officers stationed in major tourist areas, airports, and key attractions.

• Communication

A specialized helpline number is readily available at hotels, tourist destinations, and on travel websites, making it simple to contact them.
